Sometimes you come across a new service that holds the promise of what social networking is supposed to be.

That’s what happened when came across wissr and subsequently spoke with its founder and CEO, Venkat Gopi.

Pronounced ‘wiser,’ wissr aims to be a a trusted micro-market to share recommendations and classifieds with friends, family, and co-workers.

Think Yelp, but with only recommendations from those you know and trust. It’s perhaps the best way I’ve heard to move word of mouth recommendations online.

The service is still in alpa with a beta to launch in mid-September. We’ll talk about the service, it’s promise and how the idea came about on my podcast, The A-List.
